Katy, Academic Tutor

Katy has taught in primary schools for nearly 30 years. Having specialised in Early Years and Key Stage One, Katy is ideally placed to help children who need to reinforce the vital foundations of their learning. Her experience in schools, together with continuous professional development and a Master’s degree in Educational Studies have given her some deep insights into how children learn.

Katy has worked with children from Early Years to Key Stage Two who either need a bit of encouragement with specific subject areas, or who need an individually-tailored curriculum because of special educational needs.

Katy understands how difficult it can be to grasp abstract mathematical concepts and she uses a wide range of physical resources and mnemonics to help her pupils gain confidence with this.

Katy has experience of several different phonics schemes and writing programmes. She has prepared children both for the Year One phonics screening check and the Year Two SATS.

Katy is a highly creative teacher, who loves poetry, story, music and the wonders of the natural world. She makes use of inspirational children’s literature, songs and outdoor exploration whenever she can, to ensure that learning is fresh and fun.
