Our Team

Discover & Be was founded in 2015 by Rhiannon Harman and Sheila Datoo, two experienced primary teachers. They now work with a team of expert academic and music education specialists, and you can find out about each member of the Discover & Be team by reading their profile below. We have a particular approach to how we believe children should be educated, and you can read more about this philosophy here.

As well as private academic and music tuition for primary-aged children across Sussex, we also have Key Stage 3 tutors whose expertise spans into Secondary school education.

Sheila Datoo, Co-founder & Academic Co-ordinator

Having had an extensive and varied career in both the commercial world and then education, Sheila now co-ordinates Discover & Be's academic tuition, drawing on her experience in both the the state and private sectors of education. Our academic tutor team

Rhiannon Harman, Co-founder and Music Co-ordinator

With over 17 year's experience as a music teacher, Rhiannon puts her extensive skills and knowledge into practice as Discover & Be's Music Co-ordinator. Specialising in primary music teaching and performing arts, Rhiannon teaches flute, piano, ukulele, recorder and voice on a one-to-one basis, as well as song-writing. Jo Osborne, Academic Tutor

A key member of our academic tuition team, Jo has more than 10 years experience in the teaching profession. She has taught in a variety of schools across Sussex, spanning primary into Key Stage 3 (lower secondary). Read more about Jo's background.

Brad Falconer, Academic Tutor

Brad has held positions as a class teacher, deputy head and headteacher, with a specialism in Key Stage 2. As such, he has experience preparing children for SATs and the transition to secondary school. Read more about Brad's background.

Jane Williams, Academic Tutor

Jane is a highly experienced education specialist who has worked as a teacher, SENco, Designated Safeguarding Lead and Provision Lead in a variety of education provisions including KS1, 2, 3, 4 mainstream settings, pupil referral units, semi-secure units and specialist schools across the south-east of England, over the past 22 years. Louise Hack, Academic Tutor

With a wide and varied teaching background and specialising in Early Years, Louise is well-placed to provide private tuition to our younger students. Louise has over twenty years teaching experience and her love for education keeps her motivated and inspired. Read more about Louise’s background.

Catherine’s experience teaching in every year from Reception to Year 6 means she is able to adapt to each child’s needs, as well as cater for them as they develop. Josh Symes, Drum Tutor

Currently studying for a degree in music, Josh has been teaching 1:1 drum lessons for many years, and also has experience working with children with additional needs. Read more about Josh's background.


Tom Blunt, Drum Tutor

With a wealth of performing experience both on the stage and in the studio and a first class degree in Music Performance, Tom is well positioned to teach the drummers of the future! James Honess, Piano and Guitar Tutor

Music has always been an integral part of James’s working life; both professionally and socially. James is passionate about offering a fun, creative approach to teaching and learning and enjoys making lessons as bespoke as possible for each individual child. Read more about James’s background.

Julie Forrest, Academic Tutor

A highly experienced primary school teacher, Julie has a passion for creative learning and a caring and supportive manner. She is also a qualified SENCO (Special Educational Needs Co-ordinator). Read more about Julie's background. 

Isabel Gonzalez, Spanish Tutor

A native Spanish speaker, Issy loves her 1-to-1 sessions with pupils from primary school age, to those studying degrees and adults looking to learn conversational or holiday Spanish. Read more about Issy's background.


Caroline Wellen, French Tutor

Caroline has many years of experience teaching French to pupils from two years old to adult. She is enthusiastic about sharing her love for languages with others and offers lessons which are fun and engaging. Hazel Groves, Academic Tutor

Hazel has a particular interest in education with purpose, having worked with children with ADHD, PDA, dyslexia and attachment difficulties. She has a special interest in the area of maths and is currently the maths lead at her present school. Read more about Hazel’s background.


Christopher Britt, Guitar & Piano Tutor

DJ Greg, DJing Skills Tutor

DJ Greg's DJing skills sessions allow children to learn a new performance skill that they can be proud of. He blends technology and music into one exciting and fun experience.
