Debbie, Academic and Sewing Tutor
Debbie has been a teacher for over 20 years working with children in both KS1 and KS2. She particularly enjoys finding creative ways to engage children in their learning. Debbie has led other teachers and also been involved in the training of new teachers.
As well as her experience in UK schools, Debbie has also taught abroad. Living in Tanzania for three years, she worked in a local primary school providing education for both expat and local children. This meant finding different ways to make learning accessible in an unfamiliar culture and where resources weren’t so easy to come by.
Following her time in Tanzania, Debbie met with other teachers from around the world to complete a Masters Degree in International Education and has also worked with and visited schools in various other countries around the world. Debbie believes that these experiences have enabled her to broaden her skill set in working with students with different needs, backgrounds and abilities.
Throughout her teaching career Debbie has taught children with a range of educational needs and has experience of working with children with autism. One of the things that has often been noted in teaching observations is her patience and ability to find imaginative ways to teach concepts.
As well as being an academic tutor, Debbie is an expert sewer which makes her the perfect person to help and guide anyone looking to improve their sewing skills.
Debbie creates handmade bags alongside her career as a tutor, and sells them online and at local events under the name Janorah Handcrated.
Sewing is a great skill to develop whether to produce and repair items of clothing or simply as a way to express creativity.
Debbie loves all things creative and outside of teaching , alongside her love of sewing. she loves to sing and can play a variety of instruments.
