Andy, Academic Tutor
Andy is an experienced, friendly and versatile English teacher who has enjoyed 20 years of teaching English in Secondary schools locally and internationally. He specialises in KS3, GCSE and A Level English Language and Literature, including Media and Film Studies and the IB, and he has a track history of helping students to achieve excellent grades, including many grade A's, A*'s and 9's.
Andy is keenly interested in students' own lives and hobbies, and is a strong believer in how students can harness their own experiences and interests to enhance their English writing. He is able to draw on his passion for literature and writing as well as his wealth of experience to make lessons fun and engaging but always with a focus on enabling students to gain confidence and improve their knowledge and skills.
Graduating from Swansea University with a 2:1 BA Hons in English Literature, he moved to Brighton in 2002, playing music and working with young people. Upon completing his teacher training in 2006, he worked in a large secondary school teaching English to a range of students for 10 years before a 6 year stint working as Assistant Head of Department in one of the top international schools in Vietnam. After these enjoyable and enriching years of teaching a range of high achieving students, travel and exploration, Andy moved back to Brighton and taught KS3, GCSE and A Level Literature in a small private school near Horsham.
He has many loves outside of English, mainly music (he plays guitar, piano and sings in a band) and also mountain biking and motorbiking and football.
