Online Tuition - then, now and the future!?

Covid-19 has changed many things; it has taken lives, changed working practices forever and maybe changed how we socialise and interact for years to come and more. But among all the impacts it is fair to say it has had a major affect on education in the UK and globally. Firstly, schools shut and home schooling kicked in. This was a blessing for some and heart breakingly hard for others… many of us had days where it was one or the other. But out of all this came the rise of an already growing sector: online tuition. But where is it going and is it a good thing?

You Can’t Replace Face to Face

All our tutors would certainly agree that face-to-face teaching is what they love doing and, generally, the pupils love it too. However, as we all get used to using things like Zoom, its efficacy improves. Many kids were very sceptical of video calls initially, even with grandparents, but they are now happy to chat, play and engage without an issue. This doesn’t mean it is a permanent answer, or any better, but it does mean it can work.

In some cases online teaching can be advantageous. Location, for example, becomes irrelevant. Holidays, moving away from the area etc were once barriers to working with the same private tutors but they don’t have to be anymore. While a holiday seems a little far off right now, they will come back and now pupils can still have 30 minutes or an hour of tuition during a break. People who move out of an area can keep a relationship with a tutor and so keep up the great work being done.

Online Tuition

As a company we have quickly adapted to online tuition. Our tutors have worked hard to make lessons engaging and understand how to communicate via video conferencing to great effect. We are now seeing pupils coming to us from much further afield and that is wonderful. We are very excited to bring the Discover & Be way of teaching to children who otherwise may not have ever found us.

Here to Stay?

While we all certainly look forward to fthe return of face-to-face lessons for music and academic tuition, we are also happy to embrace a future that includes online tuition. We can deliver a first class service to people coming to us from all over the UK. For those who are local but may feel online is more suitable, we are happy to use online tutoring. We also understand we may move from lockdown to face-to-face and back again quite a few more times and being able to provide online music lessons and online English, Maths and more allows us to support our pupils whatever the situation.

We love to teach, regardless of the medium by which we do it. We love interaction and being with our students but it’s the results, the joy in learning and the growth of our pupils that matters in the end!
