Riccardo (Rick) Simonetti, Singing and Piano Tutor
Having studied singing at the Royal Northern College of Music and performed in many of the UK and European Opera houses, Riccardo (Rick) has a wealth of performing experience and is well placed to teach any budding singers of the future!
Together with knowledge of music history, theory and piano and always with a bit of fun thrown in, Rick’s lessons are tailored for any style of singing as the basics for any singer whether it’s rock, pop or classical are exactly the same!
Rick started singing at the age of 16 at school and soon discovered the joy it gave to him. Now, years later, he wants to be able to share that same feeling of fun and happiness that singing and music can offer.
Rick has experience working as a peripatetic music teacher at various music academies where has has taught primary and secondary school aged children. Alongside this he has taught students of all ages on a private basis in the home.
Born in Lancashire, Rick studied at the Royal Northern College of Music where he won the Anne Ziegler / Esso Award before beginning his career at English National Opera, where his roles included Dancairo in Carmen, Papageno in The Magic Flute, Schaunard in La Bohème, Figaro in The Barber of Seville and Pish-Tush in The Mikado.
Rick has also performed with Eastern Opera, English Touring Opera, Lyric Opera, Dublin, Nederlandse Opera, London Sinfonietta and the Buxton Festival Opera. Recently, Riccardo has performed in the chorus for Glyndebourne Festival Opera and Glyndebourne Touring Opera as well as English National Opera and the Royal Opera, Covent Garden.
Rick’s concert repertoire includes Messiah with the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra, Huddersfield Choral Society, the London Festival Orchestra and at the Royal Albert Hall, Elijah at Manchester’s Free Trade Hall, Carmina Burana at Symphony Hall, Birmingham, and A Sea Symphony at the Chichester Festivities as well as concert performances of L’enfant et les sortilèges at the Royal Festival Hall under Sir Andrew Davis. His recordings and broadcasts include The Little Prince for BBC4TV (director Francesca Zambello) and Périchaud La rondine and Gypsy Il trovatore for EMI, both with Antonio Pappano and BBC Radio 2’s Friday Night is Music Night.
