Bethan Thurgood, Academic and Music Tutor
Bethan grew up in North Wales, studying a wide range of A-levels along with grade 8 piano. She went on to complete a mathematics degree at the University of Bath, followed by a PGCE in mathematics for middle years.
After several years teaching KS2 and KS3 classes, Bethan started home tutoring. Since then she has gained a wealth of experience, teaching mathematics from KS2 through to GCSE and beyond – all around bringing up her two sons.
Bethan has a passion for watching children develop and grow in confidence in areas which they have perhaps found very challenging previously, and loves how individual tuition gives such scope for that. She cares for the wellbeing of all of her pupils, maintaining that a happy child who can engage with and enjoy the experience of learning will achieve the best possible academic outcome.
Mathematics and music often go together, and Bethan also teaches piano and music theory. She finds that taking lessons and facing exam challenges herself really helps her empathise with her pupils. Since her youngest started school, she has taken up the Celtic harp and, having reached a high level very quickly, is now offering harp lessons as well.
In her spare time, Bethan enjoys spending time with her children, baking, volunteering at her church toddler group and playing piano or harp for the occasional wedding.
