Kate Billington, Academic Tutor and Session Leader
Kate graduated from the University of Brighton, with a BA Hons in Primary Education, specialising in Early Years Education. Dreams of becoming a teacher came true when Kate secured a Key Stage 1 post at a primary school in East Sussex. Kate embraced the opportunity to teach young children using a hands-on, creative approach to learning; she loved seeing the children develop, grow and gain more and more independence.
Kate has always harbored a passion for travel. She was keen to experience different cultures and boost her knowledge of world history, having visited many places in the world, including New York, Paris, Tuscany and the Caribbean. When the opportunity to marry teaching and travel arose, Kate jumped at the chance! She became governess to an international family based in London.
Kate says of her experience: "I was so fortunate to have found a job where I could travel the world whilst continuing to refine my skills as a teacher. My role as governess included developing the children’s social and life skills as well as academic based learning."
Kate worked diligently to provide a rich and diverse curriculum for the children in her care, basing learning activities outside where possible. She believes: “Learning can be done anywhere. I have always believed the world is our classroom; learning outside and experiencing new things is the best way to embrace that.”
Having travelled the world, Kate knew she was a family girl at heart. She returned home, relishing the chance to continue her career as a primary teacher, whilst working part time nannying for a Sussex based family.
Rhiannon Harman, co-founder of Discover and Be, is delighted to have Kate on board: “Kate’s bubbly personality, enthusiastic approach and flare for creative teaching and learning excite us! We are extremely happy to have Kate on board and warmly welcome her as part of the Discover and Be Team.”
