How do our parent and child sessions work?

Timing of the session

Our Parent and Child sessions run for 1 hour and we use the time (approximately) as follows:

0:00 to 0:25:   Explore activities together (let your child be your guide!).

0:25 to 0:35:  Circle time - teacher led (storytelling, puppet role play, parachute games etc)

0:35 to 0:45: Play time / grab a snack. Tidy up song

0:45 to 1:00:   Music and movement circle time - teacher led

What do we do when we come into a session?

As soon as you come in, you and your child can explore the different activity stations at your own pace.  Look out for our activity cards displayed next to each station.

Please remember to sign the signing in sheet each week (this will be near the tea/coffee).

How will the activities be planned?

The activities will be planned around a theme each week.  Once you have signed up for your sessions, you will receive a topic plan via email explaining how the activities relate to our Discover and Be areas of learning.

How do we know when it’s drinks / snacks time?

You are welcome to help yourself to a drink for you and your child at any time.  There are a few travel mugs provided for those who want to wander around with their cuppas!  A snack will be provided mid session.

What are the activity cards for?

The activity cards provide prompts on how you might like to use the activity.  We also suggest questions you can ask in order to enrich your child’s learning experience.

How much are the sessions and how do I use my loyalty card?

Each session is £6.50 and you can pay as you go. Alternatively, we offer two loyalty schemes:

Scheme 1: Purchase a block of 10 sessions in advance via BACS transfer and receive 2 sessions for free.

Scheme 2: Purchase a block of 10 sessions in advance with Cash or Cheque and you will receive 1 session for free.

Paid for sessions can be redeemed at any time and at any Discover & Be venue. You will receive a loyalty card that will be stamped each time you attend until you have used up all your paid for sessions.

The Discover and Be philosophy is very child centred - let your child be your guide and have fun!
